Το καμάρι των Ελλήνων της Αυστραλίας βρέθηκε στον τελικό και όπως ήταν φυσικό το pre-game δεν θα μπορούσε να μην έχει κάτι από την πατρίδα, με το μπουζούκι στα μεγάφωνα και την φωνή του Νότη Σφακιανάκη να ταξιδεύει του ομογενείς.
Στο γήπεδο, μάλιστα βρέθηκαν 29,911 θεατές, σπάζοντας το ρεκόρ προσέλευσης σε τελικό του Κυπέλλου Αυστραλίας, με την πλειονότητα φυσικά να είναι Έλληνες ομογενείς!
Στην εξέδρα των οπαδών της Ελλάς Μελβούρνης υπήρχαν δεκάδες ελληνικές σημαίες, ενώ το «Είμαι Έλληνας» τραγουδήθηκε από όλους τους ομογενείς της Αυστραλίας που βρέθηκαν στο γήπεδο.
Ελληνικός θρίαμβος, ωστόσο υπήρξε και στον αγωνιστικό χώρο, αφού μετά το 1-1 της κανονικής διάρκειας η αναμέτρηση οδηγήθηκε στην διαδικασία των πέναλτι με την Ελλάς Μελβούρνης να κατακτάει το τρόπαιο επικρατώντας με 4-3 στην ψυχοφθόρο διαδικασία.
Η ομάδα των Ελλήνων ομογενών, μάλιστα κατάφερε να ισοφαρίσει σε 1-1 στο 117' της παράτασης προκαλώντας πανδαιμόνιο στο γήπεδο και ένα σύνθημα που ακούστηκε και στον θρίαμβο της Εθνικής στην Γερμανία...
