Everybody is making mistakes in life. Many quotes about that exist and not accidentally. Especially in football, you can't find a totally honest time, no matter how many years you will look back.
Thomas Mitropoulos is a name with great history in greek football. He is combined with the darkest period of the history of greek football. And Olympiakos' reaction to the supposed meeting between Savvidis-Melissanidis-Thomas Mitropoulos is a primal recognition of their own history the last 20 years.
The ironic quotes "remediation along with Thomas" and "look with who they are trying to end corruption" remind us of an acceptance of (football) war crimes. They knew it already. But now there is a public confess. Especially since it comes from people very close to Vangelis Marinakis.
Perhaps you can call it an inside hit to Sokratis Kokkalis' era. However, this is a guess.
The reality is that although the "meeting" was denied by all sides, it was an excellent chance for the hardcores of Olympiakos to oppose (?) against the way their history was written. Thomas Mitropoulos was not a simple official of greek football. He was also a member of Olympiakos' Board of Directors.
During second World War, millions of people died. No trial of those which followed against the war criminals, especially in period 1960-70, could bring back the people who lost their lives. Only a few were punished, the majority was not even trialed.
We did not have dead people in football. But for the crimes and the felonies of corrupted system, nobody was punished, nobody paid the price. However, the History wrote them down. And as usual, there are two ways for it to be written. The way the news about Thomas were leaked reminded even to the most naive that two colours were used in the black pages of greek football's book to make a great contrast: golden and red.
