Stavros Kontonis is a standard case of a Greek politician. A man who promised a lot in order to be elected, but finally refused to break any eggs to make an omelet.
After a year, his basic actions were: to stop the non-working system of athletic judges by using regular judges, who already brought a feeling of equal justice. Trying three times to make his presence in football legal, by sabotaging the prohibition of special prosecutor. To postpone the competition of Greek Cup, at least until now. These three, end of story.
During this time, his biggest credit was seeming to have good intentions. The whole press system of Olympiakos was blasting him, while Panathinaikos' hardcore fans were protesting against him at the same time and this helped him to became sympathetic to the public opinion and win some time, but until now he have only spasmodic moves from him and very few real decisions.
The fans are behind bars, the social peace is threatening by the corruption cases which are torturing this country for many years, the glass is full for kids who are not very logical already and bursting out against fair and unfair. Meanwhile, Kontonis believes that if he punishes PAOK for riots in a match against Borussia Dortmund or close Gate 13 of Leoforos Stadium he will solve the problem. Like trying to cure cancer with aspirin.
The problem is not that he made some mistakes. The problem is that he refuses to admit it. A whole year as a Deputy Minister, he is not accepting that he made even one mistake! He came to the point of accusing for deceit the order of Head Attorney Isidoros Ntagiakos! Why? Because Ntagiakos did not allow him to drop the restrictive order against Vangelis Marinakis despite Kontonis' hard effort.
It is his hard-head from Zakynthos island or something that needs to be investigated Kontonis' weakness to understand the decision of Attorney Department? "Vangelis Marinakis is prohibited for life from interfering with football". Interfering is also speaking about football with officials. The Deputy Minister VIOLATED this Attorney's orders more than once. He did it again after the evening of 21st November, before Panathinaikos-Olympiakos derby. I will stop here.
The words he used in today's statement are also proving that he strongly believes this broken tape of slander and defamation. He started speaking about investments and "everybody should look only his team". But this is not the worst. The worst is that a member of the government is trying to replace the justice system. Who is Kontonis to question the Head Attorney with his attitude?
But nothing is already so bad that it can't be even worse. And Kontonis made sure on Monday that he belongs to the same category with Deputy Minister Mardas. Check what he was saying in February 25th: "It is unbelievable for people to miss the right of innocence before trial and be wrongfully accused." He said that about the people who are criminally accused for the criminal organization of greek football.
According to information, Kontonis pressed a lot for the imprisonment of the hooligans arrested for Lefkada riots. Even if he is not Security Minister, but Sports'. If they are guilty, they should pay! I will never support such actions for any reason. You should arrest them all, if there are evidence that they had violent behavior. And I am suggesting letting them all together in the same room... to solve their differences.
But wait a second. This reference is not about the... innocence of hooligans, but to point the difference between famous and infamous. For the hooligans, there is not the right of innocence before trial? Maybe because they don't have millions in the bank? Because his statement today proves that there is not any right of innocence before trial, except if you are rich, famous, owning Media which have the strength of bullying.
This is our government. A government which want to make business with the refugees. Do you have 250.00 euros? You can stay in Greece. You don't? Sleep on the dirt. A government which were elected to fight the corruption, but are preferring to speak with it although there are evidences and documents. Do you have millions? Take the right of innocence before trial and let the prosecutor yelling, I will handle him. You don't? In prison quickly.
