The article of "hitc.com" website about 34-year-old former international's interview: Joleon Lescott recently left Greek side AEK Athens on a free transfer after just three months at the club – much to the delight of Aston Villa fans.
The centre-back left Villa on a free transfer in the summer after the club’s relegation from the Premier League. He performed poorly throughout his spell at Villa Park and was a very unpopular figure among the Villa fans.
This was due to largely to his actions off the pitch. He tweeted a picture of an expensive car after they were thrashed by Liverpool and then described the club’s eventual relegation as a weight off his shoulders.
He headed to Greece in the summer but after picking up a knee injury he left.
Appearing on Soccer AM this morning he was asked about his exit from the club, suggesting the departure of manager and former Wolves team-mate Temuri Ketsbaia as a contributing factor to his departure. He also made it clear he was now fit and ready to join a new team in January:
“I got injured and the circumstances changed to be honest. So, it was time to cut the contract a bit short.
“I’m fine, back training now and trying to get fit and ready for January.
“Temuri was an ex-team-mate of mine at Wolves. I got injured, got back to the training ground and he was gone which was kind of a strange feeling for me.
“I can officially sign for someone in January. I am just trying to stay fit and be ready for when that time comes. I can’t say (if a team has made contact).”
One team reportedly interested in his signature is former club Wolves. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new boss Paul Lambert is considering an 'emotional return' for Lescott, claimed a recent report from the Sunday People.
It will certainly be interesting to see where Lescott turns up.
