Frangiskos Somarakakis and Dimitris Groutsis were claiming that the experienced international referee has caused them trouble because of his recent performances and not following the instructions of the Hellenic Football Federation about... the brand of referees' clothing!
Tasos Sidiropoulos refereed Olympiakos-AEK recent derby clash not wearing shorts of their sponsorship brand and the HFF had leaked that he will have to pay a 10.000 euros penalty because of that, while the notorious "system" kept asking for his immediate suspension.
SDNA understands that the 37-year-old referee was forced to wear simple black shorts because the one he was going to use was destroyed the previous day and there was no time for his replacement, so he asked his assistants to do the same in order to be dressed similar.
Typically, this is a disciplinary offense, since there is a sponsorship deal between the Hellenic Football Federation and "Joma" dressing company of Spain, but the officials of it never asked the reasons of this change and that happened from its representatives in Greece.
Tasos Sidiropoulos immediately called the people of "Joma" dressing company and apologized, while they realized what happened and did not ask for his punishment. The rumours about 10.000 euros penalty were leaked by the directors of the HFF, in order for the experienced international to not be appointed as referee on Sunday's derby clash between Olympiakos and PAOK.
