"When my contract with Catania expired, there was a chance of returning to Panathinaikos and in the next second I accepted their offer. The club was interested in signing me and I wanted it very much. I was very happy for having that chance to return. I decided it because there were not many other places in which I would go and have the same feelings for them.
It was a great chance for me to wear that shirt again, with which I lived such incredible moments in the past, and have the opportunity to live them again. I am a man who takes everything very seriously, I am always fighting will all my power to win. After all those surgeries, I am fighting every day the last five years and I will not stop fighting even for one day.
I was 100% sure when I returned to Panathinaikos that I would be able to help the team and be useful again, I knew that I would be right with myself. Everybody here was expecting from me to help Panathinaikos. It is not easy when you have knee and head surgeries and I was not feeling well because everybody was asking me about those problems, but it is a normal situation for me right now.
Inside, I was 100% sure that I would be able to do what nobody else could possibly done. Many things happened to me the last 5 years, not only in my career but also in my life. They made me keep asking my self 'OK, we can not change the past. What you should do? You want to carry on, you want to stop, what do you want to do?' I always wanted to keep fighting.
Even if I can not run so fast any more and I am not able to do the things I was doing in the past, I feel deep inside that I could do still some things at the same level or even better than before. My family, my friends and parents were always by my side. I will not forget that my wife lived the difficult situation after my head injury in Argentina with me, without even knowing how to speak Spanish!
We were in the middle of a situation that nobody else would have wanted to live. Of course, we were not expecting such things to happen, but it happened. We learned what we have to do and carried on. There was no other choice. I am always telling myself 'if you love what you do, you have to carry on'.
There were some things different at Panathinaikos, for me that club always have to be on top. Even when the financial problems started and we were changing managers and players all the time, Panathinaikos remain a great club, this will never change. You have to always fighting for the top, not being 30 points behind and be happy for that.
When we won the double at 2010 we had many experienced international players, such as Gilberto Silva, Katsouranis, Karagounis. I was among the youngest of the squad, only 23 years old. Now that I returned, I am not young any more and it is my responsibility, along with Berg, Zeca and Kotsolis, to make the new players understand how they should be training and playing, to show them the only way in order to understand the real meaning of Panathinaikos.
Personally, since the day I returned, I have met many Spanish-speaking players and I think that will help us in the future. We are trying to work hard, there are many young players here, who want to prove their quality, and this is very important. The manager is building the team the way he wants it. I want to say that when I returned, the half of the players were not in his plans and some others had to leave soon.
It was a difficult situation for work and many negative things had happened since the beginning of the season. There is a new idea now, things are more clear and we have to follow that and move forward. We signed some players because they can follow the certain plans of our manager and I think that this is very important for Panathinaikos.
I like Andrea Stramaccioni, he has a nice way of approaching the players. I have played in Italy before and many managers have a different way of approaching and were used to play a different style of football, but I think that in Greece you have to adjust your ideas to the Super League's style. I am sure that he could do a very good work at Panathinaikos, he is a nice guy and has an excellent technical staff around him.
I am pleased with our current level of work. I am following a specific training schedule every day, I can follow team's program, but the right thing is to be training hard some days, some others get more rest, in order to be in the best fitness condition possible in the official matches. We are in pre-season right now, with every day trainings for 10 days, I have to be very careful with my injured knee and generally with my training program.
Of course there are also many other guys in the team which are following a special program and sometimes they are training less hours or in a different way. My personal target ahead of next season is to score many goals! Panathinaikos' main target is to win the championship, this is the most important thing for me and the whole team to be honest. It is decisive for all the players and of course for our supporters as well.
The fans will bring to us positive energy, in order to earn some things, they are massively supporting us. There is the chance to play in the european competitions, where things will not be easy, it was never easy for any team in Europe. Still, we want to be there and we will fight with all our strength to reach the group stage. I want to play in Europe, all the players want it, it is very important for the club and we have to be there.
I have spoken many times with the manager about my position, I was always a left winger, besides the last season with Panathinaikos, at 2011-12, when I was performing as a striker. I am sure that I can do it and be on the left, but close to the opponents' area, in order to score. I am not the same player, but if the manager asks me I will certainly tell him that I could do it.
Still, I think that we are cooperating well with Marcus Berg in the attacking line, we have to be thinking clever and adjusting our tactics every time with the best players, in good fitness condition, available. The manager is working with a new system and will decide the best for our team. I can perform as left winger and left attacking midfielder, in order to be more dangerous for the opponents and score more goals.
I know well Christian Ledesma, I have played against him in a Catania- Lazio match. They beat us and we were not even able to take the ball from him! If there is any chance of joining us, it would be great. He had an excellent 10-season career at Seria A and was one of the leaders of Lazio. He is an Argentine player with great quality and experience, what else can I say", said the 30-year-old former player of Lanus, Liverpool, Olympiakos and Catania Calcio at his SDNA interview.
