Speaking to SDNA, Spyros Gianniotis said that he dedicates the bronze medal he won at the open water race at the World Aquatics Championship in Kazan to the people of Greece.
"During the race I was thinking about Greece, that is giving a fight", the 35-year-old said. "I was thinking that I had to give joy to my compatriots. I dedicate the medal to my country, that is going through rough times".
His main target was to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. "I wanted to be among the first ten, in order to qualify for Rio. When I saw that I had made it, I stepped it up and managed to win the medal".
