Greek swimming champion Kelly Araouzou won the silver medal on the opening day of the World Aquatics Championship in Kazan.
Araouzou finished second in the 5-kilometer open water race, timing 58 minutes and 49.8 seconds. She was just 1.4 seconds behind winner Haley Anderson from the United States, who won with 58:48.4. The bronze went to Germany's Finnia Wunram, who clocked 58:51.0.
This was the first event of the championships, which run until August 9 and cover swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, high diving and water polo.
