Panathinaikos kept their chances of qualifying to the Euroleague Final Four alive after beating CSKA Moscow in the third game reducing the deficit to 2-1 ahead of the fourth game tomorrow.
A defeat would have dented Panathinaikos's hopes and Fotsis believes that the desire along with the brilliant statistics in the three-pointers were the reasons which helped Panathinaikos earn this important win.
“We have managed to claim an important victory but the only way to hit your target in the play-offs is to keep your feelings and move on. I know it is not easy but if you have been in this kind of situation again then you do it spontaneously. So, you leave everything in the past and you keep going. Now we are focused on the fourth game on Wednesday. Alright, it's very difficult to score again 16 three-pointers, so that's why we have to improve vastly especially in the rebounds. It's not easy to stop CSKA in the transition game but of course we can do a lot better defensively. Tactics always play their role but desire, pride and arrogance are also needed,” Fotsis acknowledges.
According to the Greek forward Panathinaikos were a lot better last night after two miserable performances in Moscow which rung as an alarm bell for the whole squad. “The two games in Moscow were a big blow. We learned from our mistakes and we were determined to fight back. Undoubtedly it is a big motivation when you face one of the best teams in Europe but the most important to respond was the way we lost in Moscow. I don't know if we can win them again on Wednesday. CSKA are a very experienced team. But we have to play with the same resilience and with the same desire for the win. If we lose, then we will give credit to CSKA for qualifying. Simple as that,” Fotsis told SDNA.
Panathinaikos forward spoke about his matchup with Adrei Kirilenko who is the star player of this CSKA Moscow squad. “I know him since we were 14-15-year-old within the National Teams. He's a player of top quality and I think we respect each other. He's a great player,” Fotsis said.
