They are telling -and they are right- that respect should be inspired, not forced. There are thousand examples of that in life. Some of them in front of our eyes.
Many people were impressed during last season, when a young fan of Olympiacos wanted to take a picture with Panathinaikos BC captain Dimitris Diamantidis. On Monday, they were impressed when a supporter of AEK entered the court and asked Olympiacos BC star Giorgos Printezis for an autograph. Probably people from Africa have read it and they were worried what's so special...
Still, it is kind of special. Something that should be written and shared, even if it should be going without saying. Because even in Greece, with many scoundrels and club officials who think that they are more important than the athletes, there are examples proving that real values are recognized.
Diamantidis is a living myth, Printezis an actual diamond, Spanoulis a real legend. They have made mistakes in the past, but which one of us has the true grit to accuse them?
At the end of the day, these players are the examples we have to show to the younger generations. That's why this kind of news should be showed again and again.
The same way, the opposite kind of news, the negative examples, also have to be showed again and again.
Let's write it one more time. Olympiacos BC have earned something more important than two championships in a row. Respect. They trusth them, count on them, consider them to be something important, a club which won titles in an honorable way.
7.000 supporters of AEK recognized their superiority. No bottles in the court, no insulting banners, no booing the opponents. Nothing. Like it was a european match. Olympiacos remain a sports enemy of AEK, this is clear.
AEK BC faced relegation to basketball, the same way as the football department.
They had the same campaign with the football department in the recent past. They walked, almost at the same time, to the "sport fields" of Greece, the football and the basketball department of AEK. But when the members of the football club returned to the first division, they were actually hating an opponent which (according to them) insulted their history by using money to do so, while the members of the basketball club were respecting Olympiacos BC, because they won everything with teamwork, cooperation, great players and without destroying the opponents.
Even at last season, at a thrilling encounter in the Olympic Stadium of Athens, the behavior of AEK supporters in the stands was no different than yesterday.
No professional approach is necessary. At time goes by, all the wounds will finally close. The one thing that never changes, is the way history was written. The counterfeiters will always be disrespected, the real winners will be written at the book of history with golden letters.
It is a matter of choice in life. If you like to drive expensive cars, it will be much more valuable to work night and day in order to buy one than stealing one in the middle of the night. You will be driving it in both cases, but at the first one of them your friends will be looking and admiring you, while at the second time you will always be shameful and dishonorable...
