Panathinaikos won Apollon Patras in the Greek Cup final by 68-53 and lifted the first trophy of the season. Mavrokefalidis was named the MVP of the final, an honour which flatters him. “To be named as MVP is a special moment. However there have been MVPs in the past with better displays than mine. So, I don't think we have to stay there. The trophy is very important. Both for me and for the club. I'm very happy to be a member of Panathinaikos. Our fans supported us thoroughly. They give us so much energy. We want them to continue their support like they did yesterday,” Mavrokefalidis told SDNA.
Panathinaikos face Red Star midweek in a crucial game for the Euroleague Top 16 and the 30-year-old center is determined to get the victory. “The next game against Red Star is very tough and a very crucial one. It's another must-win game like a final. We have to go to Belgrade and get the win. We know that Olympiakos are a friendly club with Red Star therefore we expect a hostile atmosphere. But we've got the experience and the quality to deal with it. We've got a decent squad,” Mavrokefalidis added.
