The Greek guard signed at Fenerbahce last December and since then the Turkish club has made vast improvements. Zisis thinks that his transfer to Fener is not the one which turned the things around as he paid tribute to Zeljko Obradovic for the work he has made within the squad.
“I don't think that my presence has changed the direction of the club. I'm just a link at Fenerbahce's squad. We work very hard every day. Our coach is one of the best around and he has reached the top because he pays attention on everything. This is what makes the difference. We have passed different levels to reach the point we are today. When I came the team did not deliver according to the quality of the squad. But within a period we managed to achieve the cohesion we wanted. Our key is the defence we play where we are really aggressive. Obradovic wants to pass through his philosophy which paves the way to every single player to deliver his qualities. As a player you need to be 100% focused under Obradovic. He always wants you to stand on your toes. It may sound a bit tiring but it's not. He's very experienced, therefore he always knows what the teams needs to succeed. Every day there is a different challenge,” Zisis told SDNA.
Despite being only three months at Fenerbahce's squad, Zisis admits that he settled in quite easily. “There is a lot of pressure as Fener are a club with 25 million supporters. This year I felt like a player who becomes a trade and plays against his former club in just two days. It was something extraordinary to me. That's how I felt when I faced CSKA Moscow which I had already played against earlier into the season as a Unics Kazan player. The good thing is that I already knew my teammates quite well, so I settled in easily,” he acknowledges.
Moreover, Zisis adds that Fenerbahce's target is to reach the Final Four this season and the key is their aggressive defending, the one that helped Fener to beat Olympiakos in the Top 16 recently. “Our aim is to go through to the Final Four. We can make a step forward this season. But we focus on the quarter-finals first. Against Olympiakos, we all knew the importance of this game. We were tactically prepared for this game and our hard defending paid off.”
