This Monday was not like the rest of them. It was a different day, not similar to any other. A day that proved that something new is arising...
I totally understand the sadness of AEK fans and I am not intended to laugh with their pain. I realize the meaning of losing 3-0 against Olympiakos, which have not scored in five of their nine official matches before that.
I realize what means for Olympiakos to beat 3-0 an ambitious team, which left their stadium badly hurt. I realize the meaning of crashing the team which terminated your undefeated run and won the final of Greek Cup, by actually imposing the rules of Justice in Greek football.
I did not write that article exactly after the derby clash, because you should read it when you are calm. Without the heat of the moment, without the nerves of AEK fans and the absolute joy of Olympiakos supporters.
When the dust is finally down and we will start forgetting of the derby clash, winners, losers and neutrals will begin realizing that we lived something unprecedented. We are returning to reality! Some people happy, some others sad. This is football!
A few days after the derby clash, in a discussion with one of the most decisive officials of the upcoming Hellenic Football Federation's elections, he told about his... desire. "I am reading you, claiming that you want your Sundays back... But you have not thought of something else. I am an Olympiakos supporter and I have lost my Mondays". I was surprised and asked him what he was meaning. He left me... really stunned: "I want back the Mondays they have stolen. The right to visit a bar and make fun of the others when we are beating them, not being able to speak with them because of shame of what happened the previous day".
It was like taking a picture of the next day after Sunday's derby clash. The winners were making fun of the losers, something that happens in every civilized football country in the earth. The supporters of loosing team wanted to disappear from the world and this is the biggest proof of health. A conversation confined just in football, with the lovers of refereeing talk losing their... wage and only a small minority of loyal servants or naive people, who will not ever be disappeared, to speak about 1-2 human mistakes.
Sunday's derby clash gave us the opportunity to strongly realize a scene from the future.
One team wins, the other loses. Like in the past. There will always be mistaken referee decisions, the same as in Premier League, Primera Division, Bundesliga. But not only in favor of the same side.
There are no contracts signed with joy in football. To be more specific, there will be no more. Slowly, we will remember that joy in football is short-term. One for us, one for them.
Almost 48 hours after that derby clash, the conversation is only about the stars of the match. Not about Marinakis, not about Melissanidis. And if they are speaking about them, it is only in football level, for the transfers that they have made or not. Today, it seems like an exception in contrary to what has happened in previous decades. The important issue is to allow it become the standard procedure.
And if the people who are claiming that they are coming to cure that illness will not manage to achieve that, we will be here to judge them. One way or another, those who have the power in their hands have the obligation to retun to football fans their last reason of satisfaction. Their Sundays. And their Mondays as well, according to the correct opinion of my friend...
