Slaughter believes that Panathinaikos's tough defending was the main reason that led Panathinaikos into this victory. “We played really tough in defence. From the first till the last minute we were really aggressive in defence. We wanted to play with team spirit. Real Madrid are a great club. They can win everyone. If we were really good in defence we could claim the win. We dominated the tempo, we didn't let them to run, we managed to collect the rebounds and we got the victory,” Slaughter told sdna.gr.
The 27-year-old American guard paid tribute to Pappas and Nelson who pulled the strings with 22 and 16 points respectively. “Everyone played at their best but Pappas and Nelson run the show. Nikos is getting better and DeMarcus is overcoming his injury,” Slaughter acknowledges.
Moreover Slaughter thinks that Panathinaikos supporters is another reason that helps the whole team earning these remarkable victories at home. “The crowd at OAKA gives us power. They push us towards. You can see that clearly if you compare the away with the home games. When we play on the road we don't have the same atmosphere which plays a key role to our behaviour within the game. We're very strong at OAKA,” he underlined.
The Panathinaikos guard is also staying grounded ahead of the remaining of the campaign. “We know what we have to do to reach the Euroleague play-offs. We've got some games remaining and with one or two wins we will clinch our participation in the quarter-finals. Then, we'll see who we're gonna face. It's very early to say.”
Last but not least, Slaughter expressed his happiness over the contract renewal of James Gist at the club. “I want to congratulate my brother James Gist for his contract extension. He deserved it. He's an exceptional player and he loves the team. He spoke to Panathinaikos directors and he agreed, so he will remain with us. I wish him all the best,” he said.
