"The first thing that I can tell about him is that he is actually an excellent defender, something which is not very usual for the American players. The second advantage of his game is his decent shooting ability. A team can depend on that, because he is a real fighter and always trying for the victory. He is not so tall as the other small forwards, but much stronger than the majority of them.
It is very important having such a player with defensive and low post ability and I think that coach Argyris Pedoulakis would love that, because he is very strong in defense and it is not easy to beat him. His IQ level helps him to cooperate with the other athletes in defense, without letting his personal opponent.
His size, along with the strength and speed, allows him to be useful in on-ball defense, because the guars can not easily pass him. So, he would be very important at the part of defensive changes. Of course, he is not he best defender in Euroleague, but certainly above average. His main advantage in attack is shooting from distance and has proved that during his spells with european clubs.
You ask him if he is equally strong on attacking directly, he can do that as well but it is not one of his main weapons. Still, he has running ability, keeps the spacing of his team and has solid vision of the match. But I want to repeat that only his shooting ability is on top level, the other aspects of his game still need some work.
Some things are not easily noticed when you don't live with someone every day in trainings. It is different playing for Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, the level is much higher in Spain. What he proved as a member of Real Madrid and was definitely positive is that he can settle in conditions of playing only 5, 7, or 10 minutes.
You expect from an American athlete to be asking for the leading role, but K. C. proved that he can stand being on the bench for a lot of time. I want to repeat though that the situation of every club is different. Rivers is a normal guy and I have no doubt that none of his head coaches had problems working with him in the past.
We cooperated for one season, 2012-13, and he earned my respect because he was always focused on training and many times stayed there longer for extra shooting practice. He is a real professional. I think that K. C. Rivers would be a very good signing for Panathinaikos, of course it also depends on the match plan, his role and the teammates.
However, I believe that the officials of Panathinaikos will not be disappointed from their choice, because he has all the aspects of the game and the necessary experience to help their team", said the 56-year-old Lithuanian head coach, who will continue his career in Italy with Pallacanestro Cantù, about K. C. Rivers at SDNA.
