All those successful years of Olympiakos with Marinakis, no matter what was happening outside of their fortress in the war with their public enemies, the team inside was living in their own, real or not it does not matter, reality. What matters is that they always had everything and they were feeling it, goods and comforts, in order to live their daily routine with calmness/peace/security. The most privileged among the Greek athletes.
The manager was the real boss, from the first till the last minute of his spell. Basically, he was asking and his desires were becoming reality. De facto boss. He could live tomorrow. But if you had a fight with him today or yesterday, you would had been the one leaving. Law of the club. The well-paid players, were working under a curtain of protection, a bulletproof against the bad people who are speaking against Olympiakos. The other forces around, were having an icon of timing with the common line. To the support of a cause. Money and time and human sources, everything for the club.
It is a miracle of good work, if you consider the moody mentality of the leader. But it seems that it is now over. Marinakis' personality, the whole environment of clinical psychopathology, in which everything has to work "in red" or not working at all, dismantled the successful system. It unbearably compressed it. It was going to happen. There is no system which could stand working "in red" 24/7. All day and all of the night, in a war climate. The project needs some time of decompression. But the luxury of decompression is not for Olympiakos, of 100-0 treatment and you-stand-by-me-or-you-are-against-me attitude.
Many things stopped working well. Maybe, they could had faced them one by one. But all of them together are beyond control. Marinakis suddenly decided to buy Nottingham Forest and/or a club in "brotherly" Serbia. Vrentzos to stay, Vrentzos to leave Olympiakos. Manager Marco Silva to stay... but he finally left. Victor, who had left, and now returns to stay. Georgatos in, Georgatos out. The barracks of the locker rooms, athletes with strong personality, are not content with the situation. Those who live long here are those who act (or pretend to act) exactly like the club's leader. Anything else is not going too far.
Among the recent problems, Victor, who was ready to be appointed as manager of Nottingham Forest but it's OK, is the right solution and will help for the return at the standard "football policy" of the club. The Iberian policy. Still, Victor is in danger of being the most unlucky man from the Iberian managerial chain. The next day, in contrary with what happened to the previous cases, has uncertainty and insecurity now. Strange? Of course not. Think about when's happening.
In the first summer in which the Hellenic Football Federation's current system, a certainty, is close to be reversed. So much action it was going to cause a reaction. It is also happening in the first summer in which Olympiakos will have before Champions League's group stage, another standard certainty, two obstacles (easy or not so easy, it is not so important in July/August) in the Qualifiers. It is the reasonable end of the fury to destroy the domestic competition of the other teams. The opponents were crashed, as it was expected because of their vulnerability. So, the crashed opponents stop offering points at UEFA's ranking. The certainties became doubts. The fury was finally self-destructive.
The system is losing its strength. Standard things are not so sure yet. You are a professional footballer. With your mind, you are looking left/right and (even if you don't really understand it) you start to feel it. It passes through you. The table you were knowing for many years to be made, is now unmade. It is a very serious opponent in the microcosm of a club such a feeling...
