The Croatian is the prolific striker Dnipro have in their squad and speaking to sdna.gr Kalinic said that he rates Olympiakos highly but at the same time he expressed the belief that the Ukrainian team can get a result in order to have the advantage in the second leg at Karaiskakis Stadium.
“Every club at this stage are a top quality. Our tie against Olympiakos is 50-50. Both legs will be very tight as Olympiakos are an experienced side playing in the Champions League. But in the group stage of the Europa League we faced strong teams such as Inter and St Etienne. Overall the two games against Olympiakos are not easy at all. However a 2-0 win would be a great result. We don't have to let Olympiakos score in the first leg at home. We need to give our best and I'm sure that in the end we will get through to the next round,” Kalinic tells sdna.gr.
The lack of competitive games due to the winter break is something that concerns Dnipro ahead of Olympiakos games. “It would be better if we had more games recently, but it's something we cannot change. Now we are focused on these two legs against Olympiakos. We want to go as far as we can in the Europa League. We have reached the last 32 of the competition several times but we didn't manage to go any further. So, this is the moment to achieve it,” Kalinic said.
As for the worrying times in the country because of the crisis in the Eastern Ukraine, Kalinic agrees that it is something Dnipro players have in mind. “You cannot ignore it. Everyone in the team is concerned and even more the Ukrainian players of the squad. The only thing we can do is to carry on our every day life, wishing for brighter and peaceful days. I don't know whether the decision taken by Uefa to change the venue of the first game is correct, but we can understand it. We will miss our fans, but in the group stage as well we played in Kiev, so we will settle in quite easily.”
