As you read early in the morning, the city council of Nea Philadelphia was completed shortly after 2:30, Mayor Aris Vassilopoulos managed to push through its proposal for a negative opinion of the municipality on the Environmental Impact Study, with the votes of their own party and the opposition reacting.
This development and the overall attitude of Vassilopoulos during the meeting angered AEK. This is because after the tripartite meeting that had been made at YPAPEN in the presence of AEK members, the Municipality and the Ministry, the Mayor had tried to give the public the impression that he will make small steps in order for an agreement to be reached. But once again, in practice this was not confirmed.
AEK People and personally Dimitris Melissanidis handling the project of the stadium construction was furious with the inconsistency and the Mayor (as they perceive the attitude of the city board). In essence, the municipal decision though goes into the closet, since it cannot influence developments as they made exclusively from YPAPEN. However, AEK have decided that any contact with the Vasilopoulos side is meaningless.
Indeed, AEK emphasized on the latest developments pointing that “85 years after the first game of our team in the physical ground, we declare that we are determined and we will return to Philadelphia with the conditions that we want and the ones that are approved by the Greek State with law and the Greek justice by rejecting appeals, whether Vassilopoulos wants it, or not."
