The Minister of Education of Greece, Nikos Filis refused to recognise the genocide of Pontians speaking to TV journalist Nikos Chatzinikolaou.
Filis said on Star TV that he may feel the pain of Pontians, however he struggles to call it 'genocide' as the majority of people believe.
“Some years ago as a journalist said this, taking into consideration the view of several historians over this issue. We drew a line between the bloody ethnic cleansing and the phenomenon of genocide. This does not mean that we do not recognise the blood, the pain and whatever the Pontians have suffered from Turkish brutality. But this is something different from the so called genocide with the scientific meaning,” Filis told.
