After a brief delay due to the absence of the Iranian translator, the trial for the drugboat Noor1, carrying 2 tons of heroine, started on Friday. The Coastal Guard Officer Konstantinos Agapakis provoked various comments about the defendant Konstantinos Kartsonis (he was the driver of the lorry driver), answering the questions from the defense attorneys.
Apparently when his lawyer asked him if he cooperated with the Autorities in order to find the 1 ton of heroine, and to everybodys surprise his answer was positive!! After that Kartsonis is in danger , the witness also stated that the supervisor Giorgos Katsoulis knew more. Katsoulis is the 13th witness.
At that point Kartsonis’ lawyer, trying to show the court that Kartsonis cooperated with the authorities in order to get a better sentence and asked the judge for his client to be on the witness protection program.
Back to the “front” of the translators, The Iranian never appeared which led to the end of today’s session which will restart 09:15 Monday morning.
According to information there is a proposal by the justice department for trials to take place during the weekend in order to prevent possible releases because of the 18 month period running out.
