During the last 5 years, Panathinaikos has limited revenues from European sporting events, especially compared to Olympiacos and other Greek teams. The Greens lost once again huge amount of revenues from UEFA due to their elimination by Clubbe Brugge for the Champions League qualifiers and from the shocking elimination by Qabala in Europa League qualifiers.
Panathinaikos lost 1.000.000euros out of the 3.000.000euros market pool that is going to be shared with PAOK and Asteras Tripolis. As a result, Panathinaikos elimination cost the club 3.4 million euros (2.4 for participating in the group stage, 360.000euros for every win and 120.000 for every draw). In addition, the Greens had the chance to participate in the Champions League but their elimination gave the full market pool (11.800.000) to Olympiacos.
Asteras Tripolis surpasses Panathinaikos
From now on, Asteras Tripolis is even higher than Panathinaikos in UEFA Club Ranking. Asteras is on the 113th place together with the Greens with 14.340 points but they progress in Europe. On the other hand, Olympiacos is on the 23rd place with 64.360 points and PAOK in place 56 with 32.840 points.
From 25 millions to 0
In 2011/2012 Olympiacos entered the Champions League group stage and finished third, earning 24.444.000euros while from their participation in the Europa League and elimination by Metallist, they earned 688.393euros more. Exactly 25.132.393 as a whole.
PAOK who was eliminated in round of 32, earned 3.246.307euros while AEK was eliminated in the group stage and earned 2.964.317euros.
Panathinaikos failed to qualify to the Champion League Group stage as they were eliminated by Odense Boldklub and Maccabi Tel Aviv for the Europa League qualifiers.
PAOK collects market pool
In 2013/2014 Olympiacos was again the only greek team in the Champions League Group stage because PAOK was eliminated by Schalke. Τhe Reds collected that year 27.406.000euros by progressing to the knock out phase where they faced Manchester United.
PAOK, the only greek team that participated in the Europa League Group stage that year, acquired 5.021.804euros due to the fact that they were knocked out by Benfica.
That season, Panathinaikos, Asteras Tripolis, Atromitos and Skoda Xanthi did not managed to qualify for the Europa League Group stage.
Last year(2014/2015) Olympiacos received from his participation to the Champions League group stage 8.600.000euros, 11.800.000euros from the market pool and 1.000.000euros for every win(won 3 times). Τhe total amount rises to 23.4 million euros. From their elimination from the Europa League, the Greek giants received 200.000euros.
Asteras Tripolis was the second Greek team with the highest revenue from European matches with 2.750.000euros. 1.3million euros for participating in the group stage, 300.000euros for the draws with Besiktas J.K. and FC Partizan Belgrade and 200.000euros for the victory against the Serbian team. What is more, they acquired 250.000euros for their qualifications and 700.000euros from the market pool.
Panathinaikos was knocked out by Standard Liege for the Champions League qualifiers but collected 2.600.000euros from his participation in the Europa League. 1.300 for their participation in the group stage, 200.000euros for the draws with PSV Eindhoven and Estoril, 200.000euros from the elimination by Standard Liege in the Champions League qualifiers and 900.000 from the market pool. PAOK collected 100.000euros less than the Greens that season(2.500.000)
25 millions without playing a single match
For this season, Olympiacos has already ensured 25.000.000euros without playing a single match in the qualifiers. The Reds will acquire 13 million euros from the market pool and 13 millions from their participation in the Champions League group stage. The Greek champions for every win against Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb will earn 1.5 million euros and 500.000 for each draw.
With Panathinaikos being eliminated, Asteras Tripolis and PAOK will share the market pool that rises to 3 million euros.
To sum up, the last five years has collected 124.909.131 euros, PAOK 14.668.111, Asteras Tripolis 6.650.000 and Panathinaikos 6.384.735.
